The Different Engine Types of RC Cars

The Different Engine Types of RC Cars

When you’re looking to buy an RC car, one of the things you need to consider is what type of engine it has. There are four different types of engines for RC cars; piston, Wankel, turbine, and electric. In this blog post, we’re going to go over the different types of engines and their pros and cons. By the end of this post, you should have a better idea of which type of engine is right for you and your needs.

Electric Motors

Electric motors are becoming more common in RC cars as technology improves. Electric motors have a lot of torque and they’re very efficient. The main disadvantage to electric motors is that they require batteries, which means you need to keep an eye on your battery life or else you could be stranded with a dead car.

Piston Engines

Piston engines are the most common type of engine found in RC cars. They’re also the simplest type of engine, which makes them easy to maintain and repair. Piston engines are typically less expensive than other types of engines as well. The downside to piston engines is that they tend to be less powerful than other types of engines.

Wankel Engines

Wankel engines are slightly more complex than piston engines and as a result, they’re usually more expensive. Wankel engines are also more powerful than piston engines. The main disadvantage to Wankel engines is that they require more maintenance than piston engines.

Turbine Engines

Turbine engines are the most complex and most expensive type of engine you can find in an RC car. They’re also the most powerful type of engine. The main disadvantage to turbine engines is that they require a lot of maintenance and they can be difficult to repair if something goes wrong.

When you’re looking to buy an RC car, one of the things you need to consider is what type of engine it has. There are four different types of engines for RC cars; piston, Wankel, turbine, and electric. In this blog post, we went over the different types of engines and their pros and cons. Now that you know a little bit more about the different types of engines, you should be able to make a decision about which one is right for you and your needs.

RC Crawlers for kids

RC Crawlers for kids

Remote-controlled cars that overcome (almost) any obstacle effortlessly: RC crawlers are the perfect choice for little RC fans who love action and always want to explore new paths in the terrain. Some of these vehicles are especially suitable for children, as the main focus here is not on speed but on skillful maneuvering.

Sourse: RCanswers

At what age is a remote controlled car useful for children?

The range of remote controlled RC models is now so huge that even for toddlers from the age of 2 there are RC cars available that make sense. However, the speed, the transmitter range and also the steering angle / control should be adapted to the age or skill of the child.
Basically, the age recommendation of the manufacturer should also be observed. However, for particularly careful and skilful children, 2-3 years can be added to the age recommendation.

What maximum speed should an RC car have for a child?

Faster cars also promise more action. At the same time, this also means that the remote-controlled car is more difficult to control.

  • Therefore, slower RC cars up to a maximum speed of approx. 12 km/h are better suited for getting started or for smaller children. More experienced drivers can also have fun with faster cars.
  • Speeds above 20 km/h make little sense for children (exceptions confirm the rule) – the joy is quickly lost if the vehicle regularly crashes into obstacles.

What transmitter range should a remote-controlled car have?

The entry-level models usually have a very short range – after a few meters, that’s it. But that’s absolutely fine for small children, for indoor use anyway.
However, from a certain age or with children who already have some experience with remote controlled vehicles, a too small range becomes increasingly disturbing. This should be taken into account when buying a car.

A solid list of best RC rock crawlers can be found here: https://gagadget.com/en/63771-best-rc-rock-crawler-review/

Should RC Crawler cars for children be powered by accumulators or batteries?

For small children, batteries are definitely sufficient – when changing batteries, you don’t have to be very careful (but always in the presence of adults!).

For children from about 7-8 years of age, the advantages of a rechargeable battery can also be enjoyed (full power until the end). However, the charging process requires some patience and also caution in the correct handling of batteries (do not store discharged batteries for a long time; do not keep them in the vehicle for a long time etc.).

TQ is TQ at Spektrum Championship!!

TQ is TQ at Spektrum Championship!!

TQ is TQ at Spektrum Championship!

For the weekend warrior, stock class is the choice at tracks around the country on a weekly basis.  TQ once again showed that its SX10 series gives a racer the advantage needed when the competition is close. Having already won the 2010 ROAR Stock National Championship in 2wd and finishing 2nd at the Nationals in Stock Short Course, TQ is quickly becoming a weapon for local stock racers everywhere.

TQ had 3 drivers and one customer qualify in the top 10 of the 2wd Stock class at the recent Spektrum Championship at the Famous Trackside Hobbies.  Mike “Zippy” Ziolkowski won 3 of the 4 rounds of qualifying.  Colton Kruse, a TQ customer won the other round.  Qualifying was so close that the last round of qualifying was determined by .4 of a second, on the last lap of the last run in the class.  Zippy and Colton were joined in the 2wd Stock A Main by Cory Podoski and Ray Kindstrom.  While the Zippy won one of the triple A Mains, a second and a forth left him second overall. Cory finished 6th, Colton 7th and Ray 8th.

Another customer Aric Seffrood, showed the pace of the SX10 T in the Stock Truck class by TQ’ing the Stock Truck class and winning the triple A Main format.  This was Aric’s first weekend with the SX10T!!! Saying “it has more turn in than then anything.”Whether the wheels are big or small the sharp handling of the SX10 series gave the drivers and control they needed to be quick and consistent over an entire race distance.

Cory Crosley (the 2010 ROAR Stock SC National Champion) qualified 9th overall in the Modified Short Course class with a field full of factory drivers.  With the unique format of the Spektrum Championship, only the top 8 qualified for the A Main with 2 bump spots available.  Cory had to race his way through the B Main to bump into the A Main.  After winning the B Main it was on to the main event.  Starting at the back of the field, Cory worked his way up to finish a racy 5th place behind some big name factory drivers a former world champion.

April Fools Classic

April Fools Classic

By TQ Racing – Apr 4Posted in: Race Report

For the 23rd time, the April Fools Classic was run at Intermountain RC Raceway in Magma UT last weekend.

While another car company was trying to make a big splash after just releasing it’s highly anticipated new car – it was the TQ SX10 2w that stole the show!  Smooth consistent lines and great driving helped Lloyd Dassonville come to the front to win the Classic.  He also went on to finish second in the Modified Truck class.
Team Driver Nate Lavery also finished second in 13.5 Buggy and Truck, and also 5th in 13.5 4wd putting all three of his TQ vehicles (SX10 2w, SX10 T, and SX10 4w) at the front of the field.

“Make it Fast and Make it Affordable” relates to not only our philosphy with our pro racing chassis.  The same thought and consideration goes into economically balanced Ready to Run (RTR) vehicles. TQ Race Products RTR Vehicles share the same design principles, come professional built with a radio, receiver, servo, electronic speed control and motor.  Kits come with both brushed and brushless motors.  AA Batteries for the radio, 7.2v battery pack and charger are not supplied, but needed for operation.

RTR 2w and Stadium Truck- shares all the same championship winning chassis and transmission parts as its pro chassis brother, but features composite bodied shock bodies to save weight and costs.

RTR 4w – shares suspension geometry of pro car, is able to accept stick pack 7.2v batteries using specially designed chassis.  Kit does not include a slipper for a more posi-traction feel of all 4 tires pulling during acceleration.
